In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
