The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any major honors show nears, there’s always an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the spirits of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category that year
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, however the design behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles globally and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
