The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Displeasure Regarding Size Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Response
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online claiming that product pages now present a different size category than originally posted due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with similar services.
They have suggested members to review their products and manually change the size where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Modifications
Earlier, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Stories
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: last year, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
